Job Description

The Process Operator plays a key role in grading, processing, and handling grain and beans within a production facility. This position operates and maintains milling and processing equipment, performs quality checks on incoming product, and supports safe and efficient movement of materials throughout the plant. The role also involves maintaining a clean, compliant work area and ensuring production activities meet customer and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Grade incoming and outgoing product to ensure it meets required quality standards.
  • Operate and maintain milling and processing equipment for beans and grain.
  • Perform basic tests and quality checks on incoming grain and beans to verify specifications.
  • Operate a forklift to move larger totes and materials safely around the facility.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment, the processing floor, and surrounding work areas to maintain hygiene and safety.
  • Conduct regular walk-around inspections in the production facility to identify issues or potential hazards.
  • Ensure operators and team members follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times.
  • Complete any specialized customer documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform packing, packaging, bulk loading, and general labor tasks as needed to support production.
  • Carry out visual inspections to monitor product quality and process conditions.
  • Enter data accurately into logs or systems to support quality assurance and traceability.
  • Perform basic maintenance on machines to keep equipment in good working condition.
  • Work effectively as part of a small night-shift team, managing tasks independently and staying self-motivated.

Essential Skills

  • Experience operating and maintaining production, milling, or processing equipment.
  • Ability to perform grading and quality checks on grain and beans.
  • Proficiency in operating a forklift safely to move large totes and materials.
  • Capability to complete cleaning and sanitizing tasks on equipment and processing areas.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ability to ensure compliance.
  • Experience with packing, packaging, bulk loading, general labor, and visual inspection in a production environment.
  • Basic maintenance skills for troubleshooting and servicing machines.
  • Ability to perform accurate data entry to support quality assurance and recordkeeping.
  • Self-motivation and reliability when working in a small team, particularly on night shifts.
  • Physical ability to work on a production floor, including walking, climbing to mezzanine areas, and moving materials.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in quality assurance or inspection work in manufacturing or food processing.
  • Comfort working independently with minimal supervision while meeting production goals.
  • Attention to detail when handling specialized customer documentation and quality records.
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours during harvest and planting seasons, including extended shifts and weekend work.

Work Environment

This position is based on the production floor, with regular work on a mezzanine level and active movement throughout the facility. Core hours are typically 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a common shift start around 5:00 p.m. during harvest and shifts running 8 to 12 hours. Flexibility is needed for extended hours and weekend work during planting and harvest seasons. The environment involves working around processing equipment, handling totes, and performing physical tasks. Steel-toed boots are required and must be provided by the employee; all other personal protective equipment is supplied. Team members should dress for the weather and for frequent movement while working, as conditions can vary across the production floor and mezzanine.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Grand Forks, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
